Volusion is a US-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) ecommerce platform founded in 1999 by Kevin Sproles and headquartered in Austin, Texas. It gives merchants a hosted online store builder that bundles catalog management, a shopping cart, and payment processing into a single subscription plan.
Over its history Volusion has powered well over 100,000 online stores across a range of tiered hosting plans, from entry-level packages up through higher-tier Business and Prime plans that unlock additional platform features, including store-level API access.
Running a Volusion store usually means keeping product listings, stock levels, and order records in sync with the marketplaces, ad channels, and other systems you sell through. Doing that by hand with manual exports is slow and easy to get wrong, especially as a catalog grows or prices and stock change throughout the day.
Connecting Volusion to Feedance lets you pull that data automatically and turn it into feeds and updates you can act on, without maintaining your own export scripts or re-uploading files every time something changes in your store.
Feedance connects to your Volusion store using the store credentials and permissions you provide when you set up the connection. Once authorized, Feedance communicates with your store on your behalf to retrieve product, inventory, and order information and keep it current in your Feedance account.
You control what is shared: the connection only accesses the store data needed to build and maintain your feeds, and you can review or revoke access from your Feedance account at any time.
A few aspects of how Volusion is built are worth knowing before you connect it:
Once connected, Feedance keeps your Volusion data updated on an automated recurring schedule, and you can also trigger a manual sync when you need the latest information right away. This means your feeds reflect recent product, inventory, and order changes without you needing to re-export anything from Volusion yourself.
You authorize Feedance with your Volusion store credentials during setup. Once connected, Feedance uses that authorization to read your product, inventory, and order data directly from your store and keep it synced in your Feedance account, without you needing to export files manually.
Volusion makes its store-level API available mainly to merchants on its higher-tier Business and Prime hosting plans, so stores on lower-tier plans may need to upgrade first. Also, because Volusion requires periodic admin password changes as part of its security policy, you may occasionally need to re-enter updated credentials in Feedance to keep the connection active.
Feedance works with three types of data from Volusion: products, inventory, and orders. It reads product details like titles, pricing, and images, tracks stock levels, and reads order information. Feedance does not access other store data such as customer records or store settings.
Once your store is connected, Feedance syncs your Volusion data on an automated recurring schedule so your feed reflects recent changes. If you need the very latest data immediately, such as after a big price update, you can also run a manual sync from your Feedance account.
The most common reason is a changed Volusion admin password. Volusion's security policy calls for merchants to update their store password periodically, and since API access is tied to those credentials, an old connection will need to be reauthorized with the new password in Feedance.
