What is Shift4Shop?

Shift4Shop

Shift4Shop is a cloud-based e-commerce platform that lets merchants build, host, and manage an online store, including product catalog management, order processing, and payment and shipping integrations. The platform was acquired by Shift4 Payments in November 2020 and rebranded from its original name, 3dcart, to Shift4Shop in January 2021.

Because of that history, references to the older "3dcart" name still appear in some places, most notably in the platform's REST API, whose endpoint domain and documentation continue to use the 3dcart name even though the storefront product itself is now marketed as Shift4Shop.

Why connect Shift4Shop to Feedance?

Shift4Shop stores hold product, inventory, and order data that often needs to reach marketplaces, ad channels, or other sales systems in a consistent, up-to-date format. Connecting Shift4Shop to Feedance lets you pull that data out of the store automatically instead of exporting and reformatting it by hand every time something changes.

This is especially useful for merchants running multiple sales channels alongside their Shift4Shop store, where keeping listings, stock levels, and order records aligned across systems manually becomes time-consuming and error-prone.

How does Feedance connect to Shift4Shop?

Feedance connects directly to your Shift4Shop store using the credentials you provide during setup. Once authorized, Feedance reads your store's product, inventory, and order data on a recurring schedule and keeps its own copy synchronized with what is currently in your store.

No plugin installation or code changes are required on the Shift4Shop side beyond granting Feedance access; the connection is configured entirely from within your Feedance account.

What data does Feedance access from Shift4Shop?

EntityWhat Feedance does with it
ProductsReads product details such as titles, descriptions, pricing, images, and identifiers for use in feeds and exports.
InventoryReads current stock levels so downstream feeds and channels reflect accurate availability.
OrdersReads order data to support order-related reporting and channel workflows.

Shift4Shop-specific considerations worth knowing

  • Legacy naming in the API: Shift4Shop's REST API still runs on infrastructure and documentation branded under the old "3dcart" name, a holdover from before the 2021 rebrand. This is normal and does not affect functionality.
  • Account eligibility requirements: Shift4Shop generally requires a store to have an active, connected payment processor and to have been live for a period of time before full REST API access is enabled, which can delay a first-time connection on brand-new stores.
  • Per-store app credentials: Access is granted through a private-app style key and token pair generated inside the Shift4Shop Store Manager, so credentials are tied to a specific store and need to be reissued if a store is rebuilt or migrated.

How to connect Shift4Shop with Feedance

  1. Log in to your Feedance account and start a new platform connection.
  2. Select Shift4Shop from the list of available platforms.
  3. Enter your Shift4Shop store credentials or API access details when prompted.
  4. Authorize Feedance to access your store's product, inventory, and order data.
  5. Confirm the connection and let Feedance run its first sync to import your store data.

How often does your Shift4Shop data sync?

Feedance syncs Shift4Shop data on a recurring automated schedule so your products, inventory, and orders stay reasonably current without manual intervention. Sync frequency can vary based on your plan and store size, and you can also trigger a manual sync from your Feedance dashboard whenever you need the latest data immediately.

Shift4Shop feed optimization tips

  1. Keep product titles and descriptions complete and accurate in Shift4Shop, since Feedance pulls this data as-is.
  2. Make sure inventory counts are kept current in Shift4Shop so availability stays accurate downstream.
  3. Use clear, consistent product identifiers (SKUs) to avoid mismatches when data is used across channels.
  4. Regularly review product status in Shift4Shop to ensure discontinued or out-of-stock items are updated promptly.
  5. Schedule syncs at a frequency that matches how often your catalog and inventory actually change.

Frequently Asked Questions About Shift4Shop

  • How does Feedance's connection to Shift4Shop actually work?

Feedance connects directly to your Shift4Shop store using the store credentials you provide when setting up the integration. Once you authorize access, Feedance reads your product, inventory, and order data on a recurring schedule and keeps it synchronized without requiring any code changes in your store.

  • Why do I still see the name 3dcart when connecting my Shift4Shop store?

Shift4Shop was formerly known as 3dcart before Shift4 Payments acquired the platform in November 2020 and rebranded it in January 2021. The platform's API infrastructure still uses the 3dcart name in its technical documentation and endpoint addresses, so seeing that name during setup is expected and does not indicate a problem.

  • What data can Feedance read from or update in my Shift4Shop store?

Feedance works with three types of data from Shift4Shop: products, inventory, and orders. It does not access other store data such as customer records, coupons, or shipping and tax settings.

  • How do I make sure my Shift4Shop feed stays current?

Feedance syncs your Shift4Shop data automatically on a recurring schedule, so keeping your product, inventory, and order information updated in Shift4Shop itself is the main thing you need to do. If you need the latest changes reflected right away, you can also run a manual sync from your Feedance dashboard instead of waiting for the next scheduled cycle.

  • Why might my Shift4Shop connection fail when I first try to set it up?

Shift4Shop generally requires a store to have an active connected payment method and to have been live for a period of time before it grants full REST API access. If your store is brand new or does not yet have a payment processor connected, the connection may fail until those requirements are met.
